Man pleads guilty to pimping teen girl in Boise
BOISE — A Boise man who prostituted a teenage girl pleaded guilty Tuesday to child sex trafficking.
“This defendant callously victimized a minor, commercially exploiting her for the sexual gratification of others and for his personal profit,” U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson said in a statement. “This conviction demonstrates that this office and its law enforcement partners in Idaho are unwavering in our commitment to seek justice on behalf of vulnerable victims and to hold sex traffickers accountable.”
The investigation started after Wade was arrested in July 2014 for violating his probation in a failure to register as a sex offender case. His probation officer and a Boise Police detective searched his phone and found text messages between Wade and the girl in which he requests sexually explicit photos of her. After the girl sent the photos, they were posted on Backpage.com, advertising “escort services.”
Police interviewed the teen, identified in court documents only as “Minor Victim” or M.V. According to records, the girl told them she was working as a prostitute for Wade and another woman, identified only as J.K. The teen said she had sent Wade the explicit images of herself so he could make an ad for her on Backpage.com.
She also told investigators that J.K. had taken her to at least two “calls” during which she exchanged sex acts for money. M.V. was 16 at the time, she said.
J.K. told police she also worked as a prostitute, and identified Wade as her pimp. She also said she had made the online ad at Wade’s request and said he wanted he to use M.K. when customers requested a two-girl “date,” but she refused. She said she later drove the minor to several “dates” and received money for transporting her and posting the Backpage ad.
In a recorded phone call from November 2013 police found on the victim’s phone, Wade talks to the then-15-year-old victim about working as a prostitute, promising that she would be a “star by the time I’m done with you,” according to court documents. Wade also acknowledges he knows the the girl is underage during the call.
After his arrest in July 2014, Wade made several calls to J.K. and M.V. from the Ada County Jail, in which he told the teen that J.K. would teach her “the tricks of the trade.” He also told M.V. that J.K. would “buy you a room” and “have you go to work this weekend,” telling her “you are seventeen, you need money.”
He also told J.K. from the jail to take the girl “under her wing” and make sure she was working as a prostitute.
Phone calls made on the Ada County Jail telephone system are recorded.
Wade was sentenced to prison for violating his probation, and is currently serving a 10-year sentence. He was arraigned on the child sex trafficking charge three weeks ago.
Wade is set for sentencing Nov. 10. He faces between ten years and life in federal prison.
