Uber Driver ‘Abducted Female Passenger and Raped Her’ in Upscale Virginia Neighborhood

An Uber driver accused of raping a female passenger at an upscale Virginia neighborhood over the weekend has been arrested, police said.

Sewanou Bisile Yoro, of Norfolk, picked up the woman between 9:34 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Saturday in Bay Colony near the Oceanfront neighborhood where he allegedly assaulted her inside the cab, police said, WTKR-TV reported.

The 34-year-old has been charged with abduction, rape, aggravated and sexual battery after police arrested him Monday.

Police have not released the victim’s name. Yoro is being held at a county jail without bail.

The driver has been a part-time Uber employee for two to three years and reportedly earns about $350 a week, court records show, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

Yoro told General District Judge Gene Woolard during his arraignment Tuesday that he’s lived in the area since 2010.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 4.

Uber has previously engaged in sexual scandals involving its employees.

An ex-Uber engineer blasted the company in a revealing Feb. 19 blog post accusing senior management of sexual harassment and human resource negligence.

The company also settled a lawsuit in November after two women alleged sexual abuse by Uber drivers.
